how does mellie work? do I have to connect my email?

You don't have to. mellie starts with conversation — you tell her what's going on, she figures out what needs your attention, and she starts building your list from the first exchange. No email connection required to get started.

That said, connecting your inbox is where mellie really earns her keep. With email access, she reads the school newsletter, catches the RSVP deadline buried in the third paragraph, and flags the registration that expires Friday — without you forwarding her anything. Her access is read-only. No human at emellow sees your messages. She's just looking out for you.

mellie also learns your context over time. She's not answering one-off questions — she's building an ongoing picture of your life and keeping track of things so you don't have to re-explain yourself every time.

is it safe? what happens to my email?

The short version: we read your email to help mellie help you. We never store your email. No human at emellow ever sees your inbox content.

Here's exactly what happens when an email arrives:

• emellow fetches it from Gmail using read-only API access
• It's passed to our AI model for processing
• Your to-dos, events, and reminders are extracted
• The original email is discarded — not stored, not logged, not kept

The AI that processes your email is Claude, built by Anthropic. Because we use Anthropic's commercial API, your email content is excluded from AI model training by Anthropic's own terms.

emellow has read-only Gmail access — enforced at the Google API level, not just our policy. We cannot send email, delete email, or modify your inbox in any way.
