The camp signup window is the short, often early-morning period when summer-camp registration opens and closes — sometimes within minutes of opening.

It's 8:58am on a Saturday in February. You have three browser tabs open. You have a credit card on the desk. You have written down the kid's allergy info and the emergency contact in advance because last year you fumbled it at 9:00 and lost the slot. You hit refresh. You hit refresh. At 9:00:14 the page loads. By 9:01:42 the week you wanted is full. You got the second-choice week. You will tell yourself this is fine.

There's a phrase for that minute and forty seconds. Parents call it the camp signup window — the short, often early-morning period, usually some Saturday between January and March, when summer-camp registration opens and closes. Some windows last a week. Some last three minutes. The 9am-that-closes-at-9:01 has been a parent-vocabulary cliché since the camp economy moved fully online.

You're not paranoid for setting an alarm. You're not over-scheduling. You are doing all four phases of cognitive labor for a single signup — anticipating in December, identifying which camp and which week and which kid, deciding fast, monitoring whether the deposit cleared and whether you got off the waitlist. Sociologist Allison Daminger's 2019 framework basically named this exact moment.

The camp signup window is also the cleanest single proof that "back to school" is not the actual scope of a parent's logistics year. February is a logistics month. So is March. So is every other month with a window in it. It's family logistics with a stopwatch on it, and the default parent is almost always the one holding the stopwatch.
